Hey, I'm Erin.

I’m a multimedia reporter and editor dedicated to reporting for the public good.

I’ve written, photographed, or made video for the likes of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, The BBC, The Appeal, Gen, Eater, and Burn Magazine. In 2020 I received the inaugural Women Deliver Reporting Grant from the IWMF for a series on the #metoo movement in Tunisia, and the 2021-2022 Global Health Reporting Initiative Vaccines in Africa grant.

I spent two years as the Tunis correspondent for The National, where I reported on everything from Kais Saied’s shocking consolidation of power and its aftermath to Tunisia’s waste crisis and dirty phosphate industry, to the public salary crisis and the second-hand clothes market. In 2022 I reported from Ukraine, Moldova and Romania at the start of Russia’s invasion.

These days, I am the North Africa editor for New Lines Magazine, where I write about Tunisia and commission award winning long-form reportage from across North and West Africa.

Before returning to the field to report from North Africa, I was an editor at both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, tackling what it means to bring legacy news onto new platforms, and empowering some of the world’s best journalists to make new and innovative work. I’ve shot a Snapchat documentary about the opioid crisis for the Wall Street Journal, reported from a war zone on Instagram, and covered the 2016 U.S. election on emerging platforms. I teach journalists all over the world how to leverage the phones in their pockets to tell important stories with a mobile audience in mind.
